Design Youth Education

Ángel takes complex design methods and interprets them to be project-based learning experiences for underserved communities of all ages. The projects are aimed to better understand social justice issues and provide design methods as an equitable tool. The examples below are workshops with 4-12th graders.

Systems Mapping

In a week-long intensive, middle school students practice mapping their generational origins through a multi-learning experience. From desktop research to tactile exercises, students are able to visualize mapping at every step.

Ideation, Prototyping, & Simulation

Over a course of 10 workshops, 4/5th grade students innovate through making. In response to the inequity of black and brown-owned businesses in America, students create a business idea that doesn’t exist. Their idea is drafted using play-doh, solidified with legos, and simulated through game playing. Toothpicks and marshmallows are used to symbolize the architectural infrastructure of their business idea.
